While I was studying notarial law at the University of Groningen, I completed traineeships at several law firms in the Netherlands.

Linklaters was one of the firms I completed a traineeship with. I was invited to stay on as a Junior Associate, with a view to becoming a Civil Law Notary. Because I really enjoyed my time here at the office, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. Now it’s my job to prepare draft documents for general civil law cases, as well as notary-specific cases.

I like that there’s plenty of support for your health and wellbeing in the form of adjustable desks, healthy snacks and drinks, and plants at your desk. Furthermore, there’s flexible working and I can always rely on support from my colleagues.

The culture is actually quite informal. Of course, there’s a difference between a Junior Associate and a Partner, but it doesn’t mean you can’t ask your senior colleagues a question directly. In principle, everybody works with the door open – so anybody can walk in to have a chat.

I think it is a great firm to work for, as everybody gets along and there’s no bullying. I can have a laugh with a partner as easily as I can with a secretary. We’re encouraged to participate in after work activities, from the pub quiz to early morning workouts.
