What makes us different
The attention we give to training and support makes us stand out as an employer. We offer well-rounded programmes to help you develop your understanding of commercial law - and put you on the path to becoming a successful lawyer.
What is the scheme structure?
Legal Operations brings together a network of business experts who work closely with our lawyers to provide high-quality, practical support for our clients. This scheme is structured around four areas: Alternative Legal Services, Knowledge & Learning, Business Management & Matter Pricing, and Innovation.
We’ll look at your experience, goals and assessment centre performance before placing you in the area that suits you best. You’ll spend most of the scheme in your core area, learning the complex skills you’ll need to perform at a high level in this multi-disciplinary, global business.
However, specialist expertise doesn’t mean a narrow world view. We’ll make sure you develop a strong understanding of - and network in - the other areas of Legal Operations. This will mean placement opportunities across this vital function, with the experience, knowledge and contacts this entails.
The scheme will start in August/September 2020 and in the final months of this two-year fixed term scheme, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for a permanent role. This is likely to be in your core area, but Legal Operations is such an integrated offering that a move into another team isn’t out of the question. Click here to apply, applications close 31 March 2020, with assessment centres taking place in April 2020.
The legal sector develops rapidly, and so will you. On offer is a wide variety of transferable and sought-after business skills, deep industry knowledge and the freedom to achieve and think differently.
Legal Operations is continually expanding its presence at Linklaters (and in the wider industry). This scheme will give you what it takes to be at the forefront of change.
What will you get out of it?
You'll be involved in strategic, complex, global projects from the beginning. You’ll work with - and learn from - innovative business professionals with diverse experience across multiple sectors, and alongside our best-in-class legal teams. All of this will build on a holistic in-house and external training programme, providing you with all the tools you need to build your career and make an impact at Linklaters.
What is the mid/longer term outlook?
Successfully complete the scheme and you’ll be promoted to a Legal Operations Advisor, with your exact role dependent on your team. Recognised as a potential future leader, you’ll lead increasingly complex, innovative and high-profile workstreams and projects in your field of expertise.
You’ll also be integrated into the Linklaters global learning programme and, depending on the team, be given the opportunity to gain professional qualifications. This scheme does not lead to a legal qualification.
Day-to-day, what should you expect?
In true business fashion – it depends. From running design workshops to developing data models to project managing legal matters, each Legal Operations team has different priorities and objectives. But rest assured, you’ll have plenty to do!
At Linklaters, we believe in continuous improvement, changing the way we work to better suit our clients and our people; embracing agility, diversity and innovation not just in what we do, but how we do it.
What skills are we looking for?
You’ll need a strong academic record, and a wide-ranging set of interests and skills outside of your university studies. You’ll have a minimum of a 2:1 degree, in any subject. We’re looking for strong interpersonal skills, commercial awareness, motivation, problem-solving skills and the ability to learn business and legal concepts efficiently.
Who are the four core teams you could be placed with?
LPM plays a key part in our Alternative Legal Services offering and applies traditional project management techniques to our legal matters. Delivering legal matters as projects not only tangibly improves profitability and efficiency, it embodies the Linklaters value of striving for excellence, by delivering the highest quality to our clients.
What are LPM looking for?
If you’re an organised individual, with a great attention to detail, strong communication skills and keen eye for efficiency, this could be the team for you.
Innovation lies at the core of the firm’s purpose of delivering legal certainty in a changing world. It runs through everything we do at Linklaters – legal advice, client service and the way we run our business. We channel our ideas and resources through three streams to develop products, processes and initiatives:
- Technology & Process
- Partnerships & Collaboration
- People & Culture
What are Innovation looking for?
If creative, strategic thinking is your approach to work and life, and you can demonstrate your ability as a self-starter and strong team player – you’ll fit in well with our Innovation team!
To help our lawyers provide the best advice to our clients, they need access to the best resources. The K&L team ensures that their knowledge is both current and of the highest standard. The Data and Knowledge Technology teams pioneer innovate systems and implement our data strategy to help keep Linklaters at the forefront of the legal industry.
What are K&L looking for?
If you’re interested in deepening your technical and legal knowledge quickly and using it to equip our legal teams – then K&L may be your best fit. Structured communication, technical curiosity and the ability to make complex things understandable are key skills for successful K&L professionals.
Pricing promotes and supports Linklaters' pricing strategy globally, working closely with both the Client Pricing Committee on global client fee deals and pricing policy developments, and with Global Practices to help embed professional pricing across the organisation. The team advises and leads financial propositions ranging from global fee arrangements through to bespoke matters and work-streams to give the best value for clients and profitability to the firm.
What are Pricing looking for?
If shaping stories from numbers is your thing, and you want to learn about how smart pricing strategies can not only optimise profit, but also prepare our business for the future – our Pricing team would be a great place for you.
