Originally from Malaysia, I completed my degree and Bar professional training in England, and my postgraduate qualifications in Hong Kong. After completing a vacation scheme with Linklaters, I took up a training contract – which has been a genuinely great career decision.
During my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to work on mergers and acquisitions of power assets, the financing of infrastructure projects (including trains, wind farms and subsea cables), renewable projects such as wind farms and solar power, and many more. The work we do is almost always cutting-edge and complex, and we keep our knowledge fresh with weekly seminars that are open to everyone from every department. We also attend milestone training sessions in London which equip us with the business critical and technical skills we require to do our jobs really well – it’s a progressive environment.
We sometimes work long hours, but as a firm, Linklaters are aware of making this manageable with their Agile Working initiative. Lawyers are encouraged to work from home and there is infrastructure in place (such as laptops, and remote working) to help us achieve that.
Ultimately, it’s the people that make Linklaters so special. We socialise together a lot, and there are regular activities such as dragon boating and hiking.
My colleagues are a very diverse bunch, and we thoroughly enjoy working with each other. I genuinely love ‘being in the trenches’ with them. The satisfaction of closing a deal after many long and hard negotiations is immense. Every level of colleague pulls together (from Partners to Trainees), and we thrive when under pressure.
